CONFLICT RESOLUTION EXPERIENCE
Judge Burby was appointed to the Superior Court in 1989. He began his tenure in Norwalk but was soon moved to downtown Los Angeles, where he spent the majority of his time assigned to Fast Track matters. He also worked exclusively on settlements in Department 82 Central for six months. In addition to hearing cases as a member of the Assigned Judges Program, Judge Burby also served on the Riverside Strike Force, where he helped resolve 10 years worth of backlogged cases.
Before being appointed to the bench, Judge Burby was a partner at Kern & Wooley for more than a decade, where he tried numerous cases and represented both plaintiffs and defendants. He began his legal career as a Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney and later practiced law as an associate and partner with Brill Hunt De Buys and Burby.
Judge Burby completed the "Mediating the Litigated Case" program presented by the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University Law School.
