CONFLICT RESOLUTION EXPERIENCE
Justice Ashby was appointed by Governor Ronald Reagan to the California Court of Appeal in 1972. During his 20 years as an Associate Justice in Division Five of the Second Appellate District, Justice Ashby was the author of more than 500 published opinions. His store of legal knowledge has earned him acclaim from the bar as “one of the best,” and “four star.”
Justice Ashby’s expertise, especially in personal injury, business litigation and employment cases, permits him to take the parties’ differences and help evolve them into a shared perception that results in workable settlements.
Prior to his appointment to the Appellate bench, Justice Ashby was a private attorney. He served as Assistant District Attorney for the County of Ventura, and was that county’s first County Counsel. He also served as Chief Assistant Attorney General for the State of California. In his 40 years as a lawyer and judge, he has handled almost every conceivable legal issue and has seen the rest. He has been a private judge for more than 15 years.
