Hon. Burton S. Katz, Ret.
Named one of the Los Angeles Daily Journal’s 30 “Top Neutrals” of 2006, Judge Burton S. Katz is described by his clients as “smart, focused, creative, engaging, nonthreatening, empathetic and firm when he needs to be.” Judge Katz is a fulltime dispute resolution professional who has mediated and arbitrated numerous cases during the past five years, specializing in construction defect issues, including general con-struction, contractual disputes, tenant improvements, and -negligence. He is also a Certified Property Mold Specialist in Toxic Mold Remedi-ation and Toxic Mold Inspection.

An accomplished jurist and trial lawyer for more than 25 years who is respected for his knowledge and legal acumen, Judge Katz retired from the Los Angeles Superior Court to become a legal commentator. He hosted his own shows on MSNBC TV and KABC radio and appeared regularly on such programs as CNN’s Crossfire. As a sitting judge, he conducted hundreds of trials, motions and hearings and handled lengthy high-profile and complex matters. As a retired neutral, Judge Katz has gained an excellent reputation for his settlement abilities. He has also had particular success with employment and all areas of official misconduct, as well as medical malpractice, bad faith and insurance issues. His familiarity with the media also makes him an ideal choice to resolve entertainment cases.

Judge Katz is an approved neutral on the Construction, Commercial and Labor panels for the AAA, as well as the Contractor’s State License Board and the State Department of Insurance. An adjunct -professor at the University of San Fernando College of Law, he has lectured at the California Judicial College at Boalt Hall and currently serves as a guest lecturer at Pepperdine -University School of Law.
